Pay Up Suckas!

Like Johnny Gill said..... "I Just Got Paid".

BUT - It's not Friday night.... and I have nowhere to go. So what fun is that you may ask right? Well Mama 'bout ta SKOOL u FOOL! See, lately ALL my children do - is fight. I mean fight over EVERYTHING. Where they sit at the dinner table, who has which wrestler to play with, where their socks go in the drawer, who gets to brush their teeth first, Wii remotes (THEY ARE ALL WHITE!?!?!)... I could go on and on. But I wont. Im gonna get PAID. See I was wandering aimlessly through Kohl's when I stumbled upon the handly little contraption pictured above. And then it hit me. It hit me like Ike Turner. THE NEXT TIME THESE HEATHENS FIGHT - I'm gettin paid because I'm TIRED of listening to the bewlshit. I snatched that sucka up, paid happily and proceeded to head to my car. (What happened in the time I left the register and GOT to my car is a WHOLE NUTHA ISSUE, but we'll just leave that alone for right now..)

I drive home walk in the door and sit both their lil monkey butts down. Then I explained to them Mama doesnt get paid for my "job" of being a Mama. I have to take the good the bad and the ugly WITHOUT PAY. I have to be a maid, cook, taxi, doctor, secretary, referee... WITHOUT PAY, and well, Mama - is DONE HAD ENUFF. So... I informed them that the next time they fight I want to be paid to listen to it. The looks on their faces were priceless. As were the responding: "Huh? We don't have JOBS?" and "I can ask Daddy for some money, right?" WRONG! If that means I go straight to their piggy banks and deplete them. If it means whatever money they need for a field trip, or snack day at school, or movie night at school comes straight to me - then thats how Im rollin. The mouths dropped to the floor. Then, the offers poured in. "Mom, do you need help with dinner?", "Mom, can I make your bed?" "Mom, Mom, Can I do this, that, THE OTHER?" Oh yes....I also let them know that they can watch as the dollar amount goes up and up and then watch ME get in the car and drive away with that money for MYSELF. To get my nails done, go to a movie ALONE, you name it. And thats just how it is son. You want to act like a damn fool in my house, I don't listen to it for free NO'MO. And Im even thinking about charging OTHERS just the same. Don't come to me with bullshit drama unless you are gonna PAY me to listen. Cuz Im wiped. Business is starting up again, got 5,000 things on the mom calendar to do, a 19 month old who is part cyborg... Just don't have the energy.

Moving along...

So here I am walking out of Kohl's with the above purchase and I have said before - some people are afraid of dogs, the dark, small spaces... OLIVES... SANDRA - is afraid of snow and ice. Well when I went IN to shop it was fine. I came out into a mini blizzard. I glance down at my car keys and my gym shoes and realize mother nature is probably going to win this one as I slowly make my way across the parking lot. That's... when it happened. That mother effin black ice WON. I'm surprised all you people didn't hear my big ass go down. Bags went up in the air, front and back and Sandra made like Mary Lou Retton and did the splits and right onto my ass. Think that's bad enough? Nope.... gets worse. I pissed my pants. People, I sat there, tailbone stinging, dignity and self respect in shreds, and then it got even WORSE. 2 people start to approach me. Kids...Abercrombie crew...PUPPIES in their early 20's maybe? Late teens? "Ma'am, OMG are you ok?" I think hearing that was worse than feeling my ass, totally drenched in sludge, snow and tinkle tinkle, burn from below me. "Ohhhhhhhhhhh Im ok! Thanks!" I totally did not want them to approach me because HOW DO YOU EXPLAIN YELLOW SNOW?!?!? I was absolutely mortified. So like the persistent old woman I am, I kept declining their offers for help as I thought to myself "PLEASE GET A CRANE!!!" and finally they went about their business. I sat there for another cool 2-3 minutes plotting my army crawl to the car. Climbed in and proceeded to laugh so hard I was sure I was gonna pee whatever else I had left right there on the seat. But thankfully I didnt. And thankfully I was rockin waterproof mascara because I alternated between laughing and crying in pain the whole ride home. I GET home, beep for my husband to come "give me a hand" and hear "What the hell did you buy now???". I think he sensed by my middle finger I wasnt kidding and came out to hear the story. Did I get a hug? Did I get an "OMG U OK?" Nahhhhhhhhhhhhh - Homey almost fell over in the bushes laughing his ass off. Thanks babe.

So, he helps me hobble into the house, up the friggin stairs and I ask "Can you help me get these jeans off?" Did I get a "Sure, sure, omg you must be hurtin!" NAHHHHHHHH - I get crossed eyes, in between snorts of laughter and a big "EWWWWWW!!" People, he's lucky I wasnt able to chase him. "You watched me give birth TWICE, you have cleaned up regurgitated FOOD, and any other bodily function known to man from your children, animals, etc... " to which he replies "Any other time I have no issues with taking your pants down, but Uhhh....."  Men are gross. Even when WOMEN are gross, men still find a way to out gross us.

Yeah, there ya have it. ::HANGING HEAD IN SHAME::

"TIG OLE BITTIES"

I, unfortunately, am a big breasted woman.  38D to be exact.  This is post baby number 3. While pregnant with my children and nursing the youngest 2, these suckers hit an all time high of 42DD. G'LAWD HAMMUSSY. Some days I like it, others I don't. I am a firm believer in the just because they make it doesnt mean you should WEAR it. So here is my dilemma...

When I go to buy bras, I can't do those cute demi bras, because, well, It poses a problem for me.

Constant.  Nip.  Hard On...............  I can't stand it.

"It takes a revolution to make a solution." -  The Late, Great Bob Marley

I mean the slightest blast of chilly air and BAM - they are popping out there for all to see. The 2 or 3 demi bras I have - when worn under ANY SHIRT I OWN, make me look like Dolly Parton's twin sister. Now while the husband is all for this, I, on the other hand, am not.

I saw that Victoria's Secret carries a bra called Ipex that is for fuller busted women and has a lining exactly where  you need it.   I must say that I don't like their sizing method, because I had to get a double D (give me strength.)  Anywho, this bra is good.  It has a little bit of a lining (that I am not used to), but it makes the twins look great under clothes.  Keeps them at attention, which I like, because lets face it, no woman wants to walk around with a chest of Nell Carter proportions hanging to their knees.  It's simply unacceptable. So yeah,  I'm gonna wreck shop on Victoria's Secret and snatch up as many as I can without having to file bankruptcy.  And the general public will thank me.

My name is Sandra. And I approve this message.

Pity, Party of One Please...?

I woke up this morning feel out-of-sorts, as if I'd committed some unconscionable sin in my sleep and hadn't quite forgiven myself. I waited for the unease to settle...looked around the room for a possible source of discontent. "Maybe it's too cluttered in here," I said, and proceeded to rearrange orderly chaos, tripping over baskets full of clothes and whatnot. Still I felt that topsy-turvy feeling. And you know, I'm used to "bad" days...feeling grey around the edges; wanting to remain immobile in temporary exile. Those days feel comfortable to me, because I know all soon passes. But this mood consumed me...made me feel restless and unsure. And so I sat and sat and sat and lay down and dozed and looked at my entire situation...no blinders, no excuses. And I realized that the biggest factor in my equation of (un)happiness is my mother. And when I say unhappiness I don't mean every day diddle daddle. I mean feeling a sense of rightness about all the things I believe, work for and desire. I suppose you can call it contentment. Damn everything because even to this day, this woman, who I do not know, yet look so much like - still creeps into my head when I least expect it. I am angry. I am bitter. I resent her for not having the decency to put ANY of her children before herself. Regardless of her life choices and relationship issues with my father, I realize she is at the core of everything I am screwed up over. They BOTH are. My father, is a whole 'NUTHA issue....My father at times, makes me question my sanity as much as the general public questions....

Mr. Busey's.

I get nervous when things are going well, or the mood is too perfect, and I feel I'm giving over to that damn...feeling again. And so I sit up straight and shake the webs of enchantment loose. You know better. Ever the realist I am, only willing to allow my feet to hover a couple of inches off the ground; so that I will feel little impact when I fall. And fall I do, because that rebellious piece of me gets soooo...heavy sometimes. As I sit here typing, I hear the clock ticking on my kitchen wall, sneek a glance at my husband snoring on the couch, our daughter snuggled up under his arm, head on his chest, I know my sons are safe and secure in their beds - their little minds off in dreamland. They are so innocent and untainted. Isn't it amazing how untouched they are? They don't understand war, depression, money issues, work, etc. I yearn for those days. When nothing really mattered other than just being a kid. I want to be that innocent and free again. And just not have a care in the world. Just for a day.

I sometimes find myself sitting, watching these little people play freely and getting that feeling - that emotionally malignant tumor (it's on my heart, if you must know) more than I'd ever felt it before. I just have got to learn to let it GO. Let her GO. Over with already. DONE. Cant fix it, cant make it right. I intend and have strived to build in my life what I did NOT have in my own.  It's just that it...she...and I, this phantom relationship we have, have got to part ways. Underneath the obnoxious snoring I still hear that clock tick tick tick tick tick... and it makes me think about how to make each one of those ticks mean something while I am still here to enjoy it. I suppose the little girl in me still yearns for a mommy. And she always will. When I'm old and gray and surrounded by grandchildren, I will STILL want a mother. I didn't get that this go around. And I cannot help that I feel empty because of it, but the goal is to learn to LET IT GO. And each day gets easier, but some days are still hard.

So on that note: I'm leaving you. Effectively immediately, I don't need you anymore. I don't need the idea of you. I'm so tired of feeling rejected by motherly figures. To hell with all of you. Ive had enough. To me you are a false sense of security. You are so cold that even the thickest blanket of all the lies you have told me would still make me freeze.

I won't sit still, won't shortchange myself, won't settle for a life half-lived, won't sidestep joy, and I certainly won't two-step, do-si-do, or salsa y merengue any longer. A missed phone call is your pathetic excuse. I guess because you still draw breath I cannot fathom how you can side step your issues. You had better make amends before its your time to sit in a box. For your ignorance for your children... for your ignorance as a grandparent, and for your inability to simply say "I'm sorry" Just 2 simple words I think BOTH her children need to hear. "Im sorry for choices I made that affected you - I cant change them, but I apologize". For this mother, I hate you. Too many coincidences abound. I can ignore these messages from the universe any longer. She's telling me that everything is within my reach, if I just didn't let you rule it anymore. So step aside, and let me breathe. Get the hell out of my head and my heart. I've got work to do. A family to raise. A mother to be. I want a different life for my kids than what I had. Not that I was MISERABLE and completely unhappy as a child, because I wasn't.  I had my big sister, but she was not my MOTHER. No CHILD should have to pretend to be a MOTHER. Its unfair and uncalled for. When you reproduce it doesn't give you the right to shove all your issues off onto your children. I want better for them (everyone in general). I'm now strong enough to hunt and gather the happiness of which we are all worthy. I feel as if my spirit is saying, "Do you trust me now, or do I have to keep proving shit to you?" And I'm saying, "Yeah...I get it."

Today was a busy morning…  Rush rush rush.  Come on Jack, brush the teeth.  Come on, get dressed, hurry up!  Breakfast consisted of a cereal bar and small orange juice ....."come on, come on, let's go, let's go. " We get into the car and had a nice conversation his first day back. Just the 2 of us. My gorgeous, blue eyed baby boy, my life changer, my source if insanity at times, but my heart. I absolutely adore this child. If ONE good thing came from the relationship I had with my ex-husband, it is this little creature, a SPITTING image of that man. I really thought I knew what it meant to love someone or something. Then May 11th, 2002 happened and everything changed. And I knew what I was in, and what I would not tolerate and vowed that I would NOT let my child experience the same thing I did. I loved him the moment I knew he was in there. But when I laid eyes on this baby, everything - EVERYTHING changed. I will never understand how a mother can be disconnected from her own child. Never. One of my favorite quotes:

"A mother's love for her child is like nothing else in the world. It knows no law, no pity, it dares all things and crushes down remorselessly all that stands in its path."

I suppose that quote is wrong. Because not all mother's are loving. Not all mother's bond with their children. I love each of my children. With each of their births, my heart grew bigger. I didnt think it was possible, but it was. And when my daughter was born, this gaping hole that was in it was filled. These gorgeous little maniacs.... happy, healthy - 30 fingers, 30 toes, are my reason for breathing. Motherhood - it's somethin..

Mrs. Fields... watch your ass.

Ok so as promised, here are some of our favorite Christmas cookie recipes. You may find these cookies to be so yummy they make you smack your mama.. or a complete stranger. Cookies. They are THAT serious.

Enjoy!

Just an FYI this is NOT my grandmother's recipe because hers is OLD AS HELL, and I really dont feel like typing it. This cookie is basically a copy of the traditional Italian Wedding Cookie. So if you happen to be Japanese - It is now your Japanese Snowball Cookie. Samoan? Australian? You get the picture...

SWEDISH SNOWBALL COOKIES

1 c. nuts (English walnuts or pecans)
2 c. all purpose flour
1/4 tsp. salt
1 c. butter at room temperature
1/3 c. granulated sugar
1 tbsp. water
1 1/2 tsp. vanilla
Additional powdered sugar to roll cookies in

  • Coarsely chop the nuts. Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
  • Combine flour and salt in small bowl.
  • Combine butter, sugar, water and vanilla in a large mixing bowl. Beat on medium speed until well mixed.
  • Add the flour mixture and mix on low speed using dough hooks until all the flour is moistened. The mixture will be crumbly. Add nuts and mix well.
  • Form dough into 1" balls. Place about 1" apart on ungreased cookie sheet. Bake 12-15 minutes. When slightly cooled, roll each ball in powdered sugar. After cooling, cookies may be rolled in additional powdered sugar for extra "frosting".
  • Makes about 4 dozen 1" cookies.

CHEWY OATMEAL RAISIN COOKIES <3

The trick to getting a really thick, chewy cookie is to chill the dough before you bake it. You can scoop it and then chill it, or scoop it, freeze them and store them in a freezer bag so you can bake them as you wish. I find they’re always thicker when baked from the cold — only a couple extra minutes baking is needed.

This is a half recipe. Feel free to double it if baking for the masses..

1/2 cup (1 stick or 4 ounces) butter, softened
2/3 cup light brown sugar, packed
1 egg
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
3/4 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon salt (I often use a half teaspoon, but I like more salt in my baked goods)
1 1/2 cups rolled oats
3/4 cup raisins - I use the SunMaid ones FOR BAKING - they are much more moist. Or you can soak regular ones.
1/2 cup walnuts, chopped (optional)

Preheat oven to 350°F

In a large bowl, cream together the butter, brown sugar, egg and vanilla until smooth. In a separate bowl, whisk the flour, baking soda, cinnamon and salt together. Stir this into the butter/sugar mixture. Stir in the oats, raisins and walnuts, if using them.

At this point you can either chill the dough for a bit in the fridge and then scoop it, or scoop the cookies onto a sheet and then chill the whole tray before baking them. You could also bake them right away, if you’re impatient, but I do find that they end up slighly less thick.

The cookies should be two inches apart on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Bake them for 10 to 12 minutes (your baking time will vary, depending on your oven and how cold the cookies were going in), taking them out when golden at the edges but still a little undercooked-looking on top. Let them sit on the hot baking sheet for five minutes before transferring them to a rack to cool.

Grab a gallon of milk, anything with an elastic waistband, and throw down. Its Christmas!

Happy Baking!

Welcome Yule

Just as Christmas celebrates the birth of Christ, Yule celebrates the birth of the Sun God - child of the Goddess in the Pagan belief system. Today the sun stands still in the sky, & everyone on Earth knows that change is coming. The Winter Solstice celebrates the magic of birth, death, & rebirth, marking the journey from this year to the next. Enter your new beginning surrounded by those you love. Welcome Yule.

Sharing:

Since the first dawn, our periods of Solstice have been in a perpetual motion. Solstice means, "When the Sun stands still." Our calendar sets December 21 for winter and June 21 for Summer Solstices on Earth. Winter Solstice has long been known as the beginning of a period of rest. Before modernization and advanced mobility, Winter was a time known for staying indoors with periods of reflection of the past year with family and those closest to where you. A time of the year observed for planning the year/seasons ahead. Spring Equinox, being the planting and Fall Equinox, being the harvesting of your plans/seeds/goals for the year as determined during the Winter Solstice.

St. Nicholas paid a visit about two weeks before the Solstice and left candy and trinkets in the shoes of the children as told through the centuries, long before Christmas, known as following four days after Solstice. Eve of the Solstice is a time for inviting those who have left this world to be a part of Christmas in spirit, to once again be with you and lighten your holiday. Bringing the joy of past/present and future into one celebration of reflecting, joy, and looking forward in your life.

2010, brings a full lunar eclipse in celebration of Winter Solstice. For many, 2010 was found to be a culmination of the recession, seeing signs of hope and return of bounty and abundance into their lives. Possibly and not yet evident; taking residence in the heart of hope and healing of the year ahead with aspirations and anew in feelings of abundance ahead. Fitting, on this Solstice of 2010 for the moon to draw the curtain on the Sun and reopen the drapes of hope and prosperity in our world and allowing old energies and thoughts anchored in remorse to give way to newness in your world. How we choose to allow and accept this opening into our lives, is our choice whether to move forward with the celebration of the Sun and Moon or remained chained and anchored in what was to be of the future.

2011, is a year of coming together, finding resourcefulness united rather than divided, encouragement rather than despair. 2010, was a year to heal, recognize and repair aspects of ourselves from the past and present in preparation to be a world of hope and integrity. A time when voices grew strong, yet actions grew stronger. As you enter into 2011 in this night of the eclipse and beginning 2011 – how do you choose to grasp the available and bring this into your life now? Are you ready to let go when the new curtain of choices opens with the dawn of tomorrow. The choice is yours – all is available. You are the planner, architect, receiver and creator of your new year, embrace the gift!

Ho Ho Ho Bitches!

So tired... of.... laundry. I wish Xzibit would host a show called "Pimp My Laundry Room". Maybe if my washer was rollin on dubs, I wouldnt mind spending so much time with it. And my hands are so dried out too. :/ I’m an avid lover of all things lotion.  I’m not sure if it is the curse of fair skin, but my body never seems to have enough water or moisturizer.  Of course, if you know me, you know that along with my fair skin, comes ZERO color. My skin is as white as a gallon of milk. Its lovely being Irish and Swedish. I couldnt catch color if I tackled and sat on it. And now since I went blonde, my hair is thirsty as ALL hell in this weather.  We took our yearly trip in to get da PO-LISHHH SAHHH-SAGE and pierogi for part of Christmas Dinner. Gonna go with my daddy to Swanson's maybe tomorrow for our Bondost and other crap. Pick up some pizza kits from Rosario's for Christmas Eve... Speaking of food, I need to make out my grocery list. There truly are not enough hours in a day man. I seem to have misplaced my cape too..
I havent blogged in a hot ass minute. Busy with kids, busy with the elves, you know the drill. School is out and it is three against one. Its also a few days before Christmas, which as some may know, means the baking in this house is ridiculous. I will be posting a few of the recipes per your requests. And how does one maintain the energy needed to bake all day long? Allow me to introduce you to my new obsession:

Im willing to bet money if you sent a sample of this to a lab, they would be able to find traces of crack in the grounds. Im beginning to think this hazelnut coffee is the reason I am twitching like a dope fiend, standing at my countertop waiting for it to brew just enough for the cup in my hand. Who'da thunk it? Sandra - drinking coffee? Its unheard of I know. I am the first person to inform a coffee drinker that your breath is offensive and smells like your toothpaste of choice HAD to have been a stick of summer sausage. I have crossed over. Like the musical God, Robert Plant, once crooned..."I can't quit you...Babe".

This week I have decided to write about something that happened to me this week that really made me smile.  Was it the children, husband, or maybe a complete stranger?  How’s about all of the above?
  • The Hubby: Boy did I SMILE when he came home from work the other night.  Though he was only gone for 13 hours, it seemed like forever. It's always fun taking 2 LOUD children and a tired, cranky baby anywhere.  Every time I talked to him it seemed like he would never be home:  I'm almost done (no your not - computers are bastards), I’m getting gas, stopping at McDonald’s (get me a caramel sundae with NUTS!)…The door opening was the sweetest sound of the day!
  • Sons: I’m preemptively smiling at the thought of my boys having to clean up their bomb of a room.  I would seriously take a picture right now if it wasn’t just downright embarrassing.  They took out every toy and item they could displace in this room.   I am NOT cleaning it up this time like I always do.  I am, however, going to do a quick walk-through and pick up some junk that I want to throw away but they would never let me.  Dad is home and he’s due for a good cleaning excursion.
  • The Ladybug: So, anyone that knows me knows I don’t do vomit.  Seriously.  It’s the hubby’s job.  It was in our marital vows, okay it wasn’t, but it should have been.  We’ve got this “understanding.”  This morning, I tried sneaking ham into her scrambled eggs.  Uh yeah.  Didn’t fool her.  She always gags with it.  Not this time.  She puked.  On her high chair tray.  Twice in a ROW.  Likke "Exorcist" style people...My mouth dropped open because I have to deal with this; hubby is at work.  I SMILED and cleaned her up.  No retching on my part I might add.  How good am I?  Not sure how I did it but I did.  Hubby owes me a few really bad diapers to cancel this out!  You seriously don’t know how proud I am of myself.  I will not do it again!
  • Stranger: Nothing is sweeter to see someone drive past you, flipping you the bird and giving you the eye because you aren’t driving like Mario Andretti.  Nothing is sweeter than seeing said person get pulled over for speeding while you drive by giving them a smile.  I wanted to wave to you and congratulate you on your DOUCHEBAGGERY but thought that was just tasteless.  Yeah right.  I didn’t want to curse myself and my Karma.  Sorry about your luck crazy Honda minivan driver!
On a Sidenote: WOOOOOOOOOOSAHHHHHHHHHHHHHH GO BEARS!!!!

Be back in a bit with the recipes peeps!  Gotta start 3 more doughs today!
